BEIRUT: Lebanon’s General Security, in coordination with Iraq’s Intelligence Services, have uncovered a network that blackmails a number of Lebanese banks by spreading false information, according to a statement released Tuesday.
The latest victim of this scam was Bank Audi, the statement said, who was targeted by a fraudulent lawsuit by members of the network with the aim of claiming ownership of millions of U.S dollars.
The statement also added that a number of the perpetrators were apprehended, while Bank Audi issued a statement of its own maintaining that it is seeking legal action against those who submitted the fabricated paperwork.
“Prosecutions and legal proceedings are ongoing against the perpetrators with the relevant authorities”, the statement read, before thanking the efforts of the Iraqi Intelligence services.
