BEIRUT: Local Beirut nightclub ‘The Garten’ has been closed and sealed with red tape after Beirut Governor Judge Ziad Chebib ordered its shutdown for "lacking proper registration and promoting material that offends religious beliefs".
The news has taken social media by storm, with certain users pointing out that the move comes in response to artist Acid Pauli mixing a verse of the Quran during his set last month.
Garten took to Facebook thanking their fans for the support they've shown before confirming the cancellation of the night's party.
This follows a series of government crackdowns on popular nightclubs in Beirut after Diskotek, which falls under the same ownership, suffered the same fate in March.
Interior Minister Nohad Nachnouq had ordered its closure after videos circulated online of two women performing "lewd acts" during a Cirque Le Soir showcase.
Cirque le Soir is a renowned themed nightclub based in the heart of Mayfair, London. The club is synonymous with celebrities and as the name suggests, is designed as a circus featuring provocative acts.
Despite the initial pushback, the club reopened its doors a month later.
