BEIRUT: The Ministry of Interior and Municipalities issued Friday decision number 1205, which imposes total lockdown on 111 Lebanese towns and villages from Sunday October 4 (6AM) until Monday October 12 (6AM), amid an uncontrollable surge in COVID-19 infections.

The towns and villages that will be put on lockdown are those where “the number of COVID-19 registered cases has exceeded the permissible proportions compared to the number of residents.”

“All activities in all administrative and public and private institutions located within the specified towns and villages will be suspended, in addition to the suspension of all social events, parties, and public gatherings of all sorts,” the ministry’s decision stated.

Exceptions to the strict closures include hospitals, dispensaries, medical centers, pharmacies, bakeries, and supermarkets.

“Coordination should be made with the local religious authorities to suspend all religious events,” the statement added.

The 111 towns and villages are located in the governorates of Akkar, Baalbeck-Hermel, North Lebanon, Mount Lebanon, South Lebanon, Nabatiyeh, and Bekaa. These areas will be under the intensified surveillance of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) throughout the aforementioned period.

The Ministry of Interior and Municipalities also asked residents to abide by the formerly set general curfew between 1AM and 6AM.
