The semi-official Mehr News Agency reported today, Sunday, that Iran’s representative to the International Maritime Organization said that his country is ready to cooperate with the United Nations-affiliated organization to improve maritime safety and protect sailors in the Gulf.

Ali Mousavi said that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all shipping except vessels linked to “Iran’s enemies,” adding that passage through this narrow waterway was possible by coordinating security and safety arrangements with Tehran.

Mousavi continued by saying that diplomacy remains a priority for Iran, but completely halting aggression and building mutual trust is even more important.

He said that the Israeli and American attacks on Iran are “the main reason for the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz.”
