2026 World Cup Final tickets skyrocket to $10,990 amid dynamic pricing controversy

FIFA faces backlash as fans and politicians criticize soaring ticket prices, while the tournament gears up to kick off in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada on June 11.

The International Football Federation (FIFA) has significantly increased the maximum price of the 2026 World Cup final ticket, less than three months before the tournament begins in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

FIFA released a new batch of tickets for sale following the announcement of the 48 participating teams in the 2026 World Cup. However, this increase is unlikely to ease criticisms accusing FIFA of excluding fans due to the high prices.

The 2026 World Cup will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, featuring 48 teams participating for the first time in history.

What is the maximum price for 2026 World Cup final tickets?

The Guardian reported that the new ticket prices have risen significantly compared to the previous wave of sales, with the most expensive final tickets reaching $8,680. The increases also affected the cheaper categories, as second-category tickets rose to $7,380 from $5,575 last December, while third-category tickets reached $5,785 compared to $4,185 previously.

FIFA has raised the maximum price for a 2026 World Cup final ticket to $10,990, up from approximately $1,600 for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

FIFA is using a dynamic pricing system for the 2026 World Cup, a controversial model in which ticket prices fluctuate based on demand.

FIFA confirmed that the profits from the 2026 World Cup will be used to support grassroots football around the world.

Tickets for the final match and 17 group stage matches were released a few hours ago, with additional tickets to be gradually made available until the end of the 2026 World Cup.

Technical glitch

The ticket sale faced technical glitches when the booking window opened, as FIFA did not specify the available matches or price categories, forcing fans to search the website—a process that took hours for some users.

FIFA noted that this phase allows, for the first time, the purchase of specific seats inside stadiums rather than requesting a general category.

Criticism and a message to "FIFA"

The dynamic pricing system has drawn criticism from fans and politicians, with 69 Democratic members of the U.S. Congress sending a letter to FIFA President Gianni Infantino last month. They stated that “the adoption of dynamic pricing for the 2026 World Cup tickets starkly contradicts FIFA's core mission to promote the accessibility and global development of football. Despite collaborations with host cities, this approach will make the 2026 World Cup the most financially exclusive yet.”

Conversely, Infantino praised the sales process so far, noting in January that FIFA had received “enough requests to fill a thousand World Cup editions at once.”

The tournament is set to begin on June 11 and will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with the final scheduled in New Jersey on July 19.
