Trump claims Iran requested ceasefire while vowing continued strikes
While Donald Trump said that Iran’s new leadership had asked the United States for a ceasefire, stressing that military operations would continue, Iranian state television reported today, Wednesday, quoting a Foreign Ministry spokesperson, that Trump’s claim about Iran requesting a ceasefire is false and has no basis in fact.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Donald Trump said: “The new Supreme Leader in Iran, who is far less extreme and much smarter than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a ceasefire!”
“We will continue the bombing.”
He also explained that he would consider this request “when the Strait of Hormuz is open, free, and safe.”

But until then, he said his country would continue bombing Iran until it is “sent back to the Stone Age,” as he put it.
Reuters reported, citing an informed source, that U.S. Vice President JD Vance delivered a “firm” message saying that Donald Trump has run out of patience, warning of escalating pressure on infrastructure unless the Iranians reach a deal.
According to Iran’s ambassador: we welcome Russian mediation
Meanwhile, the Russian news agency TASS quoted Iran’s ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, as saying that Tehran would welcome Russia taking on a mediator role to help resolve the conflict with the United States and Israel.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt had also announced that Donald Trump would provide an update on the situation in Iran in an address to the nation at 9 p.m. today.

This comes as Donald Trump and his team have repeatedly emphasized in recent times that the United States has achieved its objectives in Iran.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a close ally of the U.S. president, remains committed to continuing the war. In fact, informed officials revealed that Tel Aviv is pressuring Trump to carry out a short and intense ground operation inside Iran, according to Israeli media reports.
