Iranian basketball star Mohammad Amini has officially announced his withdrawal from the national team, in protest against the massacres and human rights violations committed by the Iranian regime against its people.

Amini made the announcement in a post on his Instagram account, writing: "In these days of mourning in the hearts of my people, not wearing the national team jersey is, for me, a way to show respect for the people of my country."

The professional player in France added: "Since childhood, I dreamed of wearing my country’s national team jersey. For me, this jersey was never just an outfit—it represented the trust of the people, the hopes of a nation, their prayers, and their love. With a heart heavy with sorrow, I am not able to wear this jersey. My respect and commitment to the Iranian people will remain in my heart forever. Hoping for a peaceful Iran, side by side."

Amini’s withdrawal follows similar actions by other players. Behnam Yakhchali previously announced his retirement from the national team in response to the regime’s crimes. In addition, Zahra Alizadeh and Kothar Kamali, players in Iran’s Women’s Premier League, also withdrew in protest against the policies of the Islamic Republic.

This latest move signals escalating protests within the Iranian sports community and highlights the growing tension between players and regime leaders over the ongoing violations against civilians.
