Supreme Leader Khamenei killed in strikes
Israeli Channel 12 reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump viewed a photo of the body of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, after it was recovered by Iranian authorities from his compound in Tehran.
Israel launched a wide-scale air raid on Khamenei's compound in its first attack on Iran this morning. The Israeli ambassador to the United States, Yehiel Leiter, informed American officials of the successful assassination Saturday evening, according to an article by Axios. The operation was described as part of a broad joint military operation between the United States and Israel. Senior Israeli officials were also informed on Saturday evening.
The Ayatollah's body was found under rubble left by the Israeli air raid, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Khamenei has ruled the Islamic Republic of Iran since 1989, having served as president under Ruhollah Khomeini from 1981 until he became the Supreme Leader.
