Video - Lebanese truckers block Al-Masnaa crossing in protest of Syrian cargo rules
Truck drivers halt land transport in both directions, demanding either a reversal of the new Syrian decision or reciprocal treatment at the border.
Since last night, Lebanese refrigerated truck owners and drivers have blocked access to the customs area at the Al-Masnaa border crossing in the Bekaa Valley with their vehicles, halting land transport in both directions. This escalation is a protest against the recent decision by the Syrian authorities.
The decision prohibits non-Syrian trucks from unloading their cargo inside Syrian territory, requiring goods to be transferred at the border crossings instead. Transit shipments are exempted from this rule.
The protesters are demanding either a reversal of the decision or the application of reciprocal treatment. A larger gathering of land transport unions is planned, followed by a press conference at 2:00 p.m. today.
