Lebanon’s army denies Israeli meeting during high-profile U.S. visit

The Lebanese Army Command denied on Monday reports of a meeting between a Lebanese army officer and an Israeli army officer in the United States.
It stated that “the claims made in a local newspaper article are baseless, fabricated, and have no factual foundation.”
It clarified that “all its meetings are conducted within legal and official frameworks, while safeguarding Lebanon’s sovereignty and highest national interests.”
The Army Command urged the media to “exercise accuracy and responsibility when reporting on military affairs and to refrain from spreading fabricated information during this critical period.”
Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal visited the United States from February 2 to 5 at the official invitation of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. The visit aimed to strengthen military and security ties between Lebanon and the United States and to continue dialogue between the army commands, in the context of ongoing consultations and coordination with international partners.
During the visit, Haykal held a series of high-level meetings with White House advisors, officials from the Departments of Defense and State, members of the Senate and House of Representatives, the National Security Council, and military and security personnel. According to the Army Command, the discussions focused on enhancing military cooperation and supporting the army’s capabilities, reviewing recent regional security developments, addressing Lebanon’s current challenges, and the army’s role in maintaining security, stability, state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and civil peace, taking into account the sensitivity and specific nature of the country’s internal situation.
