Morocco forward Hamza Igamane sidelined for months with torn ACL
Moroccan international forward Hamza Igamane has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee after being injured during the Africa Cup of Nations final, in which Morocco lost 1–0 to Senegal after extra time on Sunday.
His club, French side Lille, announced on Monday that he will be sidelined “for several months.”
The 23-year-old came on in the 97th minute of extra time but was forced off just minutes later, in the 103rd minute, after “a clash with the opposing goalkeeper,” according to the club.
“The tests the player underwent have unfortunately confirmed a serious injury. Hamza Igamane indeed suffers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee,” Lille said in a statement.

Igamane joined Lille at the start of the season from Scottish club Rangers and is currently the team’s joint top scorer in the league with five goals, alongside Icelandic midfielder Hakon Haraldsson.
Morocco were forced to finish the AFCON final with 10 men following Igamane’s injury.
Morocco coach Walid Regragui said immediately after the match that he feared the forward had suffered an ACL injury.
