Egyptian artist Mohamed El Imam dies after prolonged illness
The Egyptian art community was shrouded in sadness Friday following the death of young artist Mohamed El Imam, after a prolonged illness lasting several months.
He passed away just before the release of his latest film, Big Ramy.
Artist Sameh Bassiouni shared the news on his personal Facebook account, mourning El Imam as “creative and talented” and “a paragon of ethics and respect,” highlighting the admiration he enjoyed among his peers.
Acting coach Nour Ramez revealed further details of El Imam’s medical journey, explaining that he spent roughly seven months moving between hospitals without a clear diagnosis, beginning treatment only ten days before his death.
Ramez noted that he suffered severe complications from fluid accumulation around the heart, requiring intensive care. His heart reportedly stopped several times during the night and had to be revived, before his condition deteriorated into a critical state that led to his passing.
