Lebanon faces tense crossroads as Israeli strikes continue
Lebanon today is not at a conventional crossroads, but at a collision point where choices may soon be imposed, leaving the country no longer the luxury of avoiding them.
Amid rising indicators that the region is on the brink of a new phase of escalation, and with continued Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, President General Joseph Aoun met this afternoon at Baabda Palace with former ambassador and head of the Lebanese negotiating delegation, Simon Karam.
They reviewed ongoing preparations for the Mechanism Committee meeting and the topics set to be discussed.
Israeli Army: Ready for all scenarios
In parallel, a spokesperson for the Israeli army said: “We are prepared defensively and offensively, but there is no change in the instructions.”
He added: “We are monitoring developments in the region and are fully prepared for a variety of scenarios. Rumors that cause public concern should be avoided, and if there is any change in instructions, we will update accordingly.”
Earlier Friday, an Israeli drone targeted a pickup truck on the main road in Mansouri, between Tyre and Naqoura in southern Lebanon, killing a civilian, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
