International coalition forces, in cooperation with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), conducted military training on the C-RAM weapon at the Al-Shaddadi base in southern Al-Hasakah countryside.
According to field sources, the training is intended to enhance the readiness of the participating forces and strengthen their ability to counter aerial threats, particularly short-range missiles and mortar shells, by using advanced air defense systems capable of automated and rapid response.
What is the C-RAM weapon?
C-RAM stands for Counter-Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar, a system designed to intercept rockets, artillery rounds, and mortar shells. It is used to protect military bases and installations from sudden short-range attacks by relying on early-warning radars that detect incoming projectiles immediately after launch. The system then responds automatically to intercept or neutralize the threat before it reaches its target.
C-RAM is considered one of the key defensive systems deployed at U.S. military bases and those of its allies.
According to reports, the training involved simulated scenarios for intercepting hostile missiles and shells, alongside heightened security measures within and around the base, as part of a series of joint activities aimed at strengthening the defensive capabilities of forces deployed in the region.
The maneuvers come days after loud explosions were heard on December 29 inside the Qasrak base in northern Al-Hasakah, which were later attributed to joint military exercises conducted by the SDF and the International Coalition. The drills included artillery and missile launches, as well as training on radar and early warning systems, alongside air force flights over areas including Mount Abdulaziz.
