Harry Clark meets Pope Leo XIV, gifts Chelsea jersey on spiritual journey to Rome
British reality TV star Harry Clark presented a Chelsea Football Club jersey to Pope Leo XIV during their meeting at the Vatican, highlighting that the most important things in his life are "my faith, my family, and of course, Chelsea."
The program Harry Clark Goes to Rome, broadcast by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on Thursday, April 2, follows 25-year-old Clark and his mother on a spiritual pilgrimage to Rome, documenting their personal journey in search of answers about the Catholic faith.
The documentary captures Clark grappling with fundamental questions about his faith, particularly his struggle to understand "if there’s such a thing as a good or bad Catholic." He reflects, "I often felt like a bad Catholic," admitting that he used to drink and smoke, and adds wryly, "what do you expect from a young man in his twenties? Let’s be realistic—he isn’t always faithful to God." The one-hour film also explores his personal life, including his relationship with his girlfriend Anna Maynard, as well as his family and social connections.
During his visit to Rome, Clark travels between several important Catholic spiritual sites, with his main goal being to meet the Pope. He is ultimately introduced to the pontiff among a group of visitors, where they exchange gifts—Clark presenting him with a Chelsea jersey, underscoring the club’s significance in his life alongside his faith and family.
