Heavy rain forces cancellation of Saudi Arabia - UAE third-place match at Arab Cup (Video)
The third-place match of the 2025 Arab Cup between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates was officially canceled due to heavy rain in Qatar, Abu Dhabi Sports Channel reported.
Severe rainfall left the pitch at Khalifa International Stadium waterlogged, prompting the referee to suspend play before the start of the second half. The match had reached halftime with the score tied at 0–0.
Although the second half was initially delayed, Chilean referee Cristian Garay later ruled that conditions made it impossible to resume play, ordering players from both teams to return to the dressing rooms as rain continued to fall.
Qatari media said FIFA had approved continuing the match, but both teams’ coaches refused to proceed under the prevailing conditions.
The final of the 2025 Arab Cup, featuring Jordan and Morocco, is scheduled to take place at Lusail Stadium at 6:00 p.m. local time in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
