Hebrew media: Talks underway on agreements with Syria and warning over Hezbollah’s growing power
Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper quoted Israeli sources as saying that “the agreements under discussion with Syria include a withdrawal from nine military sites seized by Israel in the Golan.”
It added: “The Israeli army is warning of a possible clause that would restrict Israeli strikes inside Syria, which could threaten to strengthen Hezbollah.”
The report continued: “There are discussions about an Israeli withdrawal from strategic areas on Mount Hermon in exchange for security guarantees from Damascus. Any limitation on operations could allow the reopening of weapons-smuggling corridors from Iran and Iraq to Hezbollah via Syria.”
It also said: “Among the contentious clauses in the talks between Syria and Israel is halting Israeli aid to the Druze community in southern Syria and around Damascus.”
