The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), based in the United States, reported on Wednesday that the death toll from the protests in Iran has reached 2,571, as the cleric-led regime faces its largest wave of opposition in years.

U.S. President Donald Trump urged Iranians on Tuesday to continue the protests, promising support. Meanwhile, Iranian officials accused the United States and Israel of fueling the violence in the country, attributing the deaths to “terrorist elements” receiving external guidance to incite unrest.

HRANA reported that it has so far verified the deaths of 2,403 demonstrators, 147 individuals associated with the government, 12 people under the age of eighteen, and nine civilians who did not take part in the protests.

An Iranian official said yesterday that around 2,000 people have been killed, marking the first time authorities have announced an overall death toll after more than two weeks of unrest across Iran.

Trump stated that military action is among the options being considered to punish Iran for its crackdown.

The unrest, triggered by worsening economic conditions, represents the most significant domestic challenge to Iran’s rulers in at least three years, unfolding amid mounting international pressure following last year’s Israeli and American strikes.
