The General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, announced Thursday that there is “notable progress” in dialogue with Damascus on several political and military issues.

He made the remarks during an advisory board meeting supporting the negotiation committee in North and East Syria, which focused on the latest political developments and the March 10 agreement.

Abdi said the SDF and the Syrian government have reached a mutual understanding regarding the merging of military forces, describing it as a fundamental step in the pathway toward a solution and in the public interest.

He added that “constitutional issues still require time and deep dialogues to reach a consensus encompassing the entire Syrian geography,” affirming that “the solution in Syria must be based on the principle of decentralization.”

Abdi also emphasized that “the shape of the political system and the participation of all components represent essential pillars for any future solution and require broader discussions to achieve a constitution reflecting the aspirations of all Syrians.”

He noted progress in developing a shared vision on the management of crossings and borders, underscoring that “subterranean wealth belongs to all Syrians without exception.”

“There is convergence in viewpoints on fundamental issues, and we hope to reach complete agreements in the upcoming phase,” he said, highlighting “the importance of the people of each area managing their regions within a clear constitutional framework.”
