ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack that resulted in the death of four security personnel in northwest Syria on Sunday, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks jihadist activities, as reported on Monday.

The SITE report cited a statement from the organization: "The Caliphate's soldiers attacked an apostate Syrian government patrol on the road to Ma'arrat al-Nu'man yesterday (Sunday) with machine guns," adding that "the mujahideen returned to their positions safely."

The Syrian Ministry of Interior had reported in a statement the "martyrdom of four members of the Ministry's Road Security Administration" and the injury of a fifth member "due to an attack on one of the patrols during the execution of its duties," without specifying the identity of the attackers.
