Lebanon Crisis: 1 in 5 Children Displaced as War Forces 1.2 Million From Homes
Escalating violence in Lebanon has displaced over 1.2 million people in a month, with children among the hardest hit and shelter conditions rapidly deteriorating.
One in five children in Lebanon has been forced from their homes in the past month as escalating conflict drives mass displacement across the country, Save the Children said.
The aid group warned that more than 1.2 million people roughly a fifth of Lebanon’s population have been uprooted in recent weeks, with children making up a significant share of those displaced.
The surge in displacement comes amid intensifying violence that has forced families to flee with little notice, often leaving behind essential belongings, documents and medication. Many are now sheltering in overcrowded facilities such as schools and public buildings, where access to basic services remains limited.
Save the Children said conditions in these shelters are deteriorating, with shortages of heating, bedding and sanitation facilities. In some cases, dozens of people are sharing a single toilet, and families are sleeping on floors with little privacy.
The conflict has also disrupted access to health care, including critical treatments for chronic illnesses, and complicated childbirth for pregnant women. Aid workers reported cases of people unable to reach hospitals due to heavy traffic and insecurity.
Children are among the hardest hit, the organization said, with many showing signs of distress after repeated displacement and exposure to violence. Some families have been forced to flee multiple times, returning to the same shelters they used during earlier escalations.
The crisis is also spilling across borders. Tens of thousands of people have fled into neighboring Syria since early March, according to humanitarian agencies, raising concerns about a widening regional displacement emergency.
