Saudi Arabia condemns Israeli move to register West Bank land as state property
The Saudi Foreign Ministry on Monday condemned what it called a decision by Israeli occupation authorities to convert lands in the West Bank into “state property” belonging to the occupation, as part of plans aimed at imposing a new legal and administrative reality in the occupied territory and undermining ongoing efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.
The kingdom affirmed that “Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories,” reiterating its “absolute rejection of these illegal measures, which constitute a grave violation of international law.”
It said the measures also undermine the two-state solution and represent an aggression against the Palestinian people’s inherent right to establish an independent, sovereign state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Israeli government on Sunday approved a draft decision to begin settling and registering lands in the West Bank for the first time since 1967.
The Palestinian presidency warned of the danger of the Israeli government’s decision, calling it a threat to security and stability, a serious escalation, and a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
