The son of Iran’s former Shah, now living in the United States, on Sunday called on Iranian security forces and government employees to join the growing protest movement in the Islamic Republic.

Reza Pahlavi said on social media, "Employees of state institutions, along with members of the armed and security forces, face two choices: either stand with the people and become allies of the nation, or side with those who oppress and kill the people."

This came after human rights organizations warned that Iranian authorities are conducting "widespread killings" to suppress the unrest.

Pahlavi also urged that the flags on Iranian embassy buildings be replaced with the pre-Islamic Revolution flag. He added, "It is time to replace them with the Iranian national flag, rather than the disgraceful banner of the Islamic Republic."

Over the weekend, a protester in London removed the flag from the Iranian embassy’s balcony and replaced it with the flag from Iran’s monarchical era, which ended with the 1979 revolution.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the British ambassador in Tehran on Sunday over the incident.
