33 people were injured due to an explosion that occurred Friday evening during a wedding in the town of Abidin in western Daraa countryside, according to "Syrian News Agency" (SANA).

Daraa Health Director, Dr. Ziad al-Mahamid, told SANA that there were children among the wounded, stressing that the Health Directorate is closely monitoring all cases and providing necessary medical care.

Al-Mahamid added that emergency response plans were activated and patients were admitted across several facilities to avoid overwhelming a single institution.

In a separate statement, Muwaffaq Mahmoud, head of the Abidin and Maariya Municipal Council, said that “unknown assailants threw two hand grenades directly at the wedding venue, injuring a number of attendees.”
