Russian and Iranian foreign ministers call for immediate halt to hostilities
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, following remarks by US President Donald Trump about talks with Tehran amid a war that has been ongoing for more than three weeks.
The ministry said that Lavrov called for an immediate halt to hostilities and a political settlement that takes into account the legitimate interests of all parties concerned, foremost among them Iran.
It added that Araghchi was the one who initiated the call with his Russian counterpart.

The two ministers expressed their shared concern over what they described as the dangerous expansion of the conflict driven by Washington and Tel Aviv into the territorial waters of the Caspian Sea.
After US President Donald Trump confirmed that talks had recently taken place between the United States and Iran and would continue throughout this week, the Iranian side completely denied the claim.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that Trump’s statements are aimed at lowering energy prices and buying time for his plans.
It also stated that the US president’s remarks about negotiations are intended to buy time for his military strategy.
