UK-Lebanon double down on trade ties; launch joint chamber of commerce
On Tuesday January 27th, British Ambassador Hamish Cowell announced the launch of the British Lebanese Chamber of Commerce (BLCC) at a reception at his residence. The event, attended by Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade Dr. Amer Bisat brought together business leaders and interested parties from across Lebanon.
The announcement follows the widely-praised Beirut One Investors Conference, hosted by the Lebanese government in November to welcome investment and trade from across the Arab world. The initiatives signal President Joseph Aoun’s emphasis on international commerce and foreign investment, as he hopes to restore international trust in the Lebanese economy.
Speaking to Annahar, Ambassador Cowell said “I hope that the Chamber of Commerce between Lebanon and the UK is another example of confidence building.”
In Minister Bisat’s words, the BLCC will serve an “important part of our transition as an economy and a country moving from recovery into global prosperity.” The chamber marks a historic moment in the business and trade ties between the two countries.
