The UAE plans to enhance AI-powered space intelligence with its new sovereign satellite constellation, paving the way for advanced technology
The UAE Supreme Council for Space is studying a plan to develop a sovereign satellite constellation aimed at strengthening AI enhanced space intelligence capabilities. The council also approved the launch of the International Space Cooperation Program with a budget of AED 1 billion (USD 272 million) to support research and development in the space sector, localize advanced technologies, and empower national talent, according to decisions issued following the council meeting.
The program will fund strategic partnerships between research institutions, academic entities, and national and international companies to accelerate the development of advanced space technologies, facilitate knowledge transfer, and transform research outcomes into commercially viable industries.
The initiative focuses on localizing space manufacturing, developing national patents, training specialized professionals, and supporting AI powered space intelligence projects as well as the creation of sovereign satellite constellations that are built and operated within the country.
The council explained that the expansion opportunities in the global space market, which reached around USD 613 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow to nearly USD 780 billion by 2033, will strengthen the UAE’s opportunities to expand its presence in future space markets and technologies.
According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre reviewed during the meeting the country’s participation in the Artemis program and its contributions to the infrastructure needed to support a sustainable human presence on the Moon. Orbit Works also presented a plan to develop a sovereign satellite constellation to strengthen AI enhanced space intelligence capabilities.
