Axios has confirmed its earlier report that US President Donald Trump will receive a military briefing on Iran on Thursday.

Axios correspondent Barak Ravid wrote on the platform X on Friday morning, which corresponds to Thursday night US local time, that two senior US officials said the commander of US Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine, delivered a 45 minute briefing to President Trump overnight on new operational plans for potential strikes against Iran.

What do the new US plans against Iran include?

Axios cited sources as saying that US Central Command has prepared a plan to carry out a wave of short and intense strikes on Iran, likely targeting infrastructure.

The report added that Washington hopes to make Iran more flexible at the negotiating table on the nuclear file.

The outlet also said that another plan expected to be presented to Donald Trump would focus on taking control of part of the Strait of Hormuz in order to reopen it to commercial shipping, noting that such an operation could involve ground forces.

Among the military options under consideration is also a scenario in which special forces would carry out an operation to secure Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
