Kfardebian, at the heart of winter tourism in Lebanon, serves as a constant and prominent symbol of the Lebanese and tourists' connection with snow for decades.

Situated at high altitudes in the western Lebanon mountain range, this oasis offers one of the most renowned ski fields in the Middle East, where the harsh terrain's natural beauty meets vibrant tourism activity.

Kfardebian is considered the mother town that embraced skiing activities, hotels, and restaurants, from which the town's fame as a primary winter destination also emerged. Its roads turn into paths leading thousands of visitors from various Lebanese regions in search of snow, adventure, and fresh air at the onset of winter. With the first weather front seen by Lebanon, the region donned its white attire, signaling the official start of the season at an opportune time.

Jean Akiki, Mayor of Kfardebian, says: "The turnout is very good, and the first station opened in Lebanon this season was in Kfardebian, which doubled the congestion in the area. It can be said that the attendance was more than expected. Huge numbers reached the area, and we worked to the best of our abilities according to a plan we had devised to avoid congestion and provide parking for cars. We estimate the number of cars entering the town to be about 5,000 per day."

According to Akiki, "Hotels in the area are full, restaurant reservations are more than good, and we expect the season to last until March if snow accumulates again. In the absence of further snowfall, the season will continue at least until the end of February."

The area hosts two ski resorts, the first being "Mzar ski," the largest in Lebanon and the Middle East, while the second is "Faqra club," which has a private nature and is not yet open to the public.

Nikole Wakim, Executive Director of Operations and Activities at "Mzar Ski Resort," told An-Nahar that "the resort comprises three slopes covering 110 kilometers, 19 ski lifts, and is equipped to welcome 7,000 skiers per day." She adds: "This year, skiers can purchase tickets remotely instead of waiting at the resort."

This heavy turnout is accompanied by clear organization and strict safety measures on the slopes and roads, from specialized rescue teams to regular maintenance of the lifts and organizing skiers' movement, along with establishing a Red Cross center at the resorts to bolster the primary center located in the middle of Kfardebian.

Amidst the snow covering the mountains, logistical readiness, and diverse activities, Kfardebian seems poised for a promising season, reasserting its position as the beating heart of winter tourism in Lebanon and a destination that brings together families, amateurs, and professionals within a complete and safe experience.
