ويأتي ذلك بعد أن حظر الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم استخدام ألوان قوس قزح في إعلانات مباراتي ربع النهائي اللتين ستقامان في روسيا وأذربيجان، مستشهدًا بالقوانين المحلية للبلاد.
ويأتي هذا بعد أن رفض الاتحاد السماح بإضاءة الملعب بألوان قوس قزح في لقاء ألمانيا والمجر في وقت سابق من البطولة، وقد أثارت هذه الخطوة الرفض من بعض المشجعين.
وقال الاتحاد في بيان إنه "تطلب من رعاتها التأكد من أن أعمالهم الفنية متوافقة مع التشريعات المحلية".
وقد اتخذت كل من المجر وروسيا وأذربيجان إجراءات للحد من حقوق المثليين. فهي لا تسمح للمثليين المرتبطين بعلاقة الإقدام على الزواج أو تبني الأطفال، كما فرضت قيودًا على الجهود الرامية لتوفير معلومات حول المثلية الجنسية، وبخاصة لفئة الشباب.
