My name is Hagir Elsheikh. I can’t sum up my life and what I went through in few lines but I will try to.I am originally from Sudan and for those who don’t know, the government there is very corrupt and most of the population is poor, dealing with a civil war and inequality. When I was in high school, I became politically active. I attended many rallies and fought for human’s and women’s rights, which led to me being tortured and detained many times, but regardless of that I continued fighting for a better life all the way to college. At that time, the government became more aggressive, and in spite of the struggle, my life progressed. I got my degree in electrical engineering, got married and then fled to Egypt with the help of the United Nations, mainly to avoid losing my life.
